They came back from nowhere. Led 2-0 at the break, the players of FC Barcelona overthrew Wolfsburg in just over twenty minutes (3-2), Saturday June 3, to win the second coronation in their history in the Champions League. In a Philips Stadium won over to the cause of the Catalans, the public was able to wash away the frustration of last season and the completely failed final against Olympique Lyonnais (1-3).

Everything changed when we returned from the locker room. Patricia Guijarro put her teammates back on track by scoring a double in three minutes (48th and 50th). Then, Fridolina Rolfö took over by being opportunistic on the winning goal, taking advantage of a mess after a completely failed clearance from Lynn Wilms on her own teammate (70th). Enough to erase the two goals of the German team in the first act, signed Ewa Pajor (3rd) and Alexandra Popp (37th).

4th final lost in a row for Wolfsburg

“This match concentrated all the emotions possible. At 0-2 at the break, I had a big flashback from the final of last year, but I told myself that it was not going to happen again. When you score one, you score two, then three and then the stadium explodes”, Caroline Graham Hansen welcomed the microphone of DAZN after the final whistle. Euphoric, the Barcelona women spent long minutes celebrating their title on the lawn, while waiting for the trophy to be presented.

The afternoon was perfect. Symbolically, Alexia Putellas was entitled to her first minutes in C1 this season, she who returned a month ago from her rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of the knee. The reigning double Ballon d’Or came into play just before the start of added time. While Barça asserts itself as the cador of the continent, by participating in the last three Champions League finals, Wolfsburg, for its part, fails for the fourth time in a row in the final (after 2016, 2018 and 2020). The Louves will still have to wait to win a possible third coronation in C1.
