the bad news that was to come, after its platinum jubilee…

Between June 2 and 5, London and the United Kingdom celebrated the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. And at 96, the monarch was up to the occasion. She who moved with a cane appeared several times to her subjects, but unfortunately had to cancel a few steps…

Queen Elizabeth II absent

Unsurprisingly, as the summer meetings begin on the other side of the Channel, the head of the Crown is resting at Windsor Castle. This is the reason why she decided to follow the Royal Ascot, her favorite horse racing competition, on television this year, as reported by our colleagues from the Daily Mail.

A heartbreak for the one who has hardly ever missed an edition, since 1952, except in 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. And for good reason, the owner regularly has horses at the start and she has 22 victories! This year, she will also follow the course of her horse, King’s Lynn, to hope to win a final title.

This Tuesday, it was therefore her eldest son and heir, Prince Charles, who replaced her. He arrived by horse-drawn carriage, with his wife Camilla Parker Bowles, as well as his nephew Peter Phillips. On the spot, the latter found his mother, Princess Anne, accompanied by without her husband Timothy Laurence. Zara Phillips and her husband Mike Tindall were also there, as were Countess Sophie of Wessex, Princess Beatrice of York and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

Will she come before the end?

If for the time being, the grandmother of princes William and Harry has not yet been seen there, the hope remains that she will attend Royal Ascot for her platinum jubilee. Last year, Elizabeth II arrived on the fifth day of Royal Ascot. We will try to keep a close eye on the stands of the racecourse and in particular the royal box, between now and the end of the event, on Saturday June 18.
