The Amber Alert launched in Saskatchewan is extended to the United States

The Amber alert issued earlier this week in Saskatchewan to find two children has been extended to South Dakota, United States.

The Saskatchewan RCMP said in a statement Tuesday evening that evidence uncovered during the investigation suggests that the four people subject to the alert are in this area.

  • The children involved are Luna Potts, a seven-year-old girl, and Hunter Potts, an eight-year-old boy.
  • Police believe the children are in the company of Benjamin Martin Moore, a 50-year-old man.
  • The children’s mother, Leah Potts, may also be with them.
  • They could travel in a dark blue 2015 Chevrolet Equinox with Alberta license plate CGC 2492.

“We think they are in danger”

On Tuesday, Saskatchewan RCMP officially issued an arrest warrant for Benjamin Martin Moore, who was convicted in 2009 in Regina of sexually touching an underage person. He was then sentenced to two years and two months in prison.

Court documents also revealed that Moore later served an additional three months in prison in 2011 after being found guilty of breaching a recognizance order.

“We are very concerned for the well-being of these children,” said Chief Superintendent Tyler Bates, who is the officer in charge of the Saskatchewan RCMP’s South District Management Team.

“We think they are in danger,” he said bluntly.

Benjamin Martin Moore is now charged with failing to provide information to a registration office within seven days of changing primary or secondary residence as required by the Sex Offender Information Registration Act.

Police attended the Moore family’s home in Eastend last week but found the house had been abandoned.

The Amber Alert was issued on Monday evening to find the two children. Superintendent Bates revealed that the RCMP had been called in to help the Department of Social Services with its own investigation into allegations about Moore.

The man is described as 5 feet 10 inches (about 1.80 m) tall and weighing 200 pounds (about 90 kg).

Officers have received some information from the public since the Amber Alert went into effect and Superintendent Bates has urged anyone who may have leads to contact authorities.

If you come across Luna, Hunter or Leah Potts, or Benjamin Martin Moore, or if you have information on their whereabouts, the RCMP asks you to immediately call 911 or 1-877-SOAMBER (762-6237) .
