One of the cult objects of consumer society is now in danger of disappearing. These are the famous supermarket shopping carts, which, more than a brand, have even become a common name. The Alsatian company is currently in default of payment.

For the third time in ten years, Caddy employees are in court. The Alsatian company is in default of payment, with concrete consequences for the 140 employees, like Franck Kieffer, assembly operator: “I am one of the people, like any employee of the company, who did not have a salary”. This is one of the reasons that prompted the company to seek receivership, because today, Caddy no longer has enough cash to produce.

A blow for the manufacturer of this cart, created by an Alsatian in 1928 and known to all French people. At the peak of production, thousands of Caddies joined supermarkets around the world. But in a century of existence, Caddie has known many setbacks. Competed, copied, bought out, the company is experiencing two legal reorganizations in 2012 and 2014, until the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic, which would be partly responsible for the current situation, according to CEO Stéphane Dedieu. In ten years, the company has grown from 900 to 140 employees, it has until February 22 to find a buyer, before a new hearing at the high court of Saverne (Bas-Rhin).
