The Alpes-Maritimes department is kept on red rain-flood alert until 10 a.m., Friday October 20. The department is also on orange alert for floods and wave-submersion, due to a rainstorm episode “particularly intense”. Accumulated precipitation will reach “150 to 200 mm” in the Alpes-Maritimes, and up to 250 mm in places, “or even a little more on the highest reliefs”, specifies Météo-France. Gusts of up to 120 to 140 km/h are also expected from mid-mountains.
Six other departments remain affected by an orange alert on Friday. The Ardèche is on orange alert for floods. The Hautes-Alpes are on orange rain-flood alert. The Alpes-de-Haute-Provence on orange rain-flood and flood alert. Bouches-du-Rhône, Var and Corse-du-Sud are on orange wave-submersion vigilance. In the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and the Hautes-Alpes, “the accumulations will be of the order of 100 to 130 mm, which is very unusual for these departments”, specifies Météo-France. However, the alert was lifted in five other departments: Drôme, Haute-Loire, Isère, Loire and Rhône.
