The Alouettes | Special teams coordinator Mickey Donovan fired

(Montreal) The Montreal Alouettes fired special teams coordinator Mickey Donovan on Tuesday.

During the end-of-season review, general manager Danny Maciocia was very critical of the work of special teams during the last campaign, even allowed himself a bellows by declaring that he did not know “that we could perform blocks within special units ”.

The Alouettes were also the most punished team this season. Many of these penalties have been collected by members of the special units. It was a matter of time before Donovan footed the bill.

Maciocia had not confirmed the return of his coaching staff for 2022 – not even that of head coach Khari Jones -, content to say that he wanted to work with the same group.

Donovan was appointed Special Teams Coordinator with the Alouettes in 2018. He was previously the head coach of the Concordia University Stingers since 2014. He began his coaching career in 2007 at Western University, where he led linebackers, in addition to handling special teams and recruiting.
