A policeman was attacked this morning around 6:30 am in front of the Cannes police station with a knife. The man, alone, approached a police car that was about to take service and opened the back door. Using a knife, he then hit a policeman and tried to injure him before being neutralized. Another police officer was exposed in the clash and the two were taken to hospital but presented with only very minor injuries. The aggressor, according to the 1st witnesses, would have said to act in “name of the prophet“.
“It’s stupor, admits Laurent Martin-de-Frémont. It’s a terrorist act, insists the representative of the SGP-Police Unit union. It’s yet another attack. We are certainly prepared but the problem is that it is uber-terrorism, which strikes anytime and whatever the means used. has the idea of killing as many people as possible and in this case to kill police officers“.
“The police are not physically injured, detail David Lisnard, mayor of Cannes. Corn the police responded with their gun and the aggressor, neutralized, is in a state of absolute emergency. “ Regarding a possible terrorist act, the mayor of Cannes remains cautious: “We all have a very strong feeling in view of the testimonies collected in the field, but let us be responsible and let the investigation and the judicial authorities work and express themselves”.
Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of the Interior, is expected on site in the morning.
