I have been following the Olympic Games coverage on television and have been thrilled by the sheer determination the athletes have had to show to represent their country at Paris 2024.
For example, swimmer Summer McIntosh, who won three gold medals at age 17, said in an interview that she had to spend 40 hours in the pool every week to perfect her art.
In my opinion, Olympic athletes are such inspiring role models of perseverance that Summer’s name is on everyone’s lips around the world, especially among young people who have decided to step up their swimming training.
Our world, where the ephemeral is the law, suffers from a lack of models of perseverance. In this regard, social media abounds in convoluted linguistic expressions that reduce the message to the great detriment of the language. In this wake, young careerists take the shortest path to achieve their goals, thus excluding any effort focused on the necessary persistence.
In this regard, Olympic athletes give us a real life lesson by placing determination at the top of their priorities, and encourage our youth to persist on this path where challenges are an intrinsic part of life.
