The 2021 Telethon counter reached nearly 74 million euros in pledges, during a 35th edition which returned to the field after the previous one, confined due to Covid-19, the organizers announced. It was Soprano who was the godfather.
The final counter accurately displays the beautiful sum of 73 622 019 euros ! A very clear increase compared to the total of 58.3 million euros raised during the duration of the Telethon in 2020. A total of 77 million was recorded last year on the meter, it remaining open some time later. The event to collect donations for research on rare diseases, launched Friday evening, was able this year to reinvest cities and villages in France even as the Omicron variant poses the threat of restarting the coronavirus pandemic.
“We were able to reconnect with conviviality and the spirit of celebration in the field“, while respecting barrier gestures, the president of the AFM-Telethon organization, Laurence Tiennot-Herment, welcomed to AFP. Despite the poor weather in many departments, events were able to take place in nearly 10,000 municipalities.
The Telethon was still and always broadcast on the channels of the France Televisions group, with host Sophie Davant at the helm.
