The novelty : A League of Their Own
If you liked A league in petticoats, this 1990s baseball comedy starring Geena Davis, Tom Hanks and Madonna, you might like this re-read. Certain scenes from the first episodes explicitly evoke the original feature film, directed by Penny Marshall, which portrayed a generation of (white) women who, during the Second World War, had joined the ranks of a women’s baseball league in the United States. Resolutely more inclusive, the television adaptation broadens the horizon of the popular film by focusing in particular on racial inequalities through the character of Max (Chanté Adams), a young black woman who dreams of practicing the sport she loves.

The return : With or without cash
To enjoy the great unraveling of Évasion, we recommend this series in which Guillaume Lambert and Geneviève Néron explore different cities with $100 or $1,000 in their pocket. In this fourth season, which arrives after an enforced three-year hiatus, courtesy of a certain pandemic, the tandem travels across Canada. In the first episode, broadcast last week, the two friends visited the Charlevoix region for 24 hours. After inheriting the smallest budget, Guillaume settled for the dormitory of an inn in Baie-Saint-Paul, a snack poutine and admission to the museum. For her part, Geneviève notably treated herself to a helicopter ride, a golf lesson and — of course — an overnight stay at the Manoir Richelieu.

The roll of the dice: The Rehearsal
This HBO offering is like no other TV show. Throughout the first episode, we wondered what we were watching. Is this a good thing? We are still hesitating… While waiting for our final verdict, we can specify that this is a completely absurd documentary series in which Canadian comedian Nathan Fielder helps ordinary people face stressful situations by creating meticulous reconstructions of the environment in which these “tests” will occur. Fielder has the participants rehearse dozens of times so that they are prepared for any eventuality. A sociological experience as fascinating as it is uncomfortable.

The event: MTV Video Music Awards
After the 2021 edition, we swore to ourselves that it was over, that we were never going to watch this awards ceremony again, but 12 months later, here we are registering it – again — on our agenda. Probably because we are afraid of missing a new scandal, yet another malaise, a number without tail or head. Who will make headlines after the gala this year? The bets are open. For now, we know that Annita, J. Balvin, Panic! at the Disco, Kane Brown and Nicki Minaj will perform. As for the finalists, we have no idea who leads the way. Because no one tunes in to the VMAs to find out the winners.
MTV and MUCH, Sundays at 8 p.m.
