On the second day of campaigning, three parties have already pledged to cut taxes if elected to power, a promise that the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) has welcomed.

“We are pleased to see that three of the main political parties recognize the urgency of taking action to reduce the tax burden on Quebec taxpayers and that they are committed to digging less deeply into our wallet,” declared Nicolas Gagnon, the new director of the FCC in Quebec.
The Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) has thus indicated that it would reduce taxes by 2.5% for the first two levels of taxation within 10 years, but by dipping into the Generations Fund.
A tax reduction of 1.5% was promised by the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) for these same tax brackets starting next year.
The Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ) for its part proposed a reduction of 2%, still for these same tax brackets.
“Quebecers pay some of the highest taxes in Canada and they are entitled to a respite,” said Mr. Gagnon.
“It is good to see that politicians recognize the need to reduce income taxes, and we invite all parties to consider other ways to reduce the tax burden on taxpayers.”
On this issue, Québec solidaire (QS) would instead increase the number of tax brackets for people with very high incomes and would introduce a progressive minimum tax for businesses.
The Parti Québécois (PQ) did not promise a tax cut in its electoral platform, but rather to reduce the costs related to gasoline, housing or groceries.
