Yann Le Mercier, tried on Thursday for having cyberharassed the Islamologist Tariq Ramadan as well as Henda Ayari, one of the Islamologist’s accusers, for two years, was sentenced to 24 months in prison, 16 of which were suspended by the court of Saint-Brieuc, learned franceinfo. A sentence that goes beyond the requisitions of the prosecution which were 18 months, 12 of which were suspended. This is the heaviest prison sentence handed down to date for a cyberstalking case.
The 48-year-old Breton is a hyperactive internet user on social networks who has developed a sort of obsession with the Ramadan affair. He is sentenced for large-scale harassment: sending malicious emails, harassment and even fraud through the opening of online pots, between 2020 and 2022.

His sentence is accompanied by an obligation of care, work, compensation as well as an additional sentence, very rarely pronounced: the prohibition to engage in any activity on Twitter and this as long as this prohibition is registered in his locker.
