A woman was stabbed to death in a residential neighborhood in the Pointe-aux-Trembles area of Montreal on Friday morning.
A man was arrested in connection with this murder, the second to occur this year on the territory of the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM). The authorities have not yet confirmed the link between the man arrested and the deceased, a woman in her thirties. According to our information, the suspect is the victim’s spouse.
The event took place in an apartment on rue Sherbrooke Est, at the intersection of avenue Yves-Thériault.
SPVM police officers intervened Friday around 7:50 a.m., after receiving a call regarding an unconscious woman on the ground. His body bore marks of violence possibly caused by a sharp object, said agent Sabrina Gauthier, spokesperson for the police force.
Major crimes investigators are heading to the crime scene, where a command post has been established.
The 42-year-old man questioned by the SPVM in this case, currently considered a possible feminicide, has no criminal record and was not known to the authorities. According to our information, the police have never intervened in the past in the accommodation where the tragedy took place.
