Suspect hospitalized after making “delusional statements” while in police custody

The 42-year-old man, “due to his delusional statements in police custody”, was seen “by a psychiatrist”, the Rouen prosecutor said.

The suspect in the kidnapping and murder of 6-year-old Célya has been released from police custody “compulsory hospitalization”declared the Rouen prosecutor on Sunday July 14. This 42-year-old man, companion of Célya’s mother, “because of his delusional statements in police custody” was seen “by a psychiatrist”. This one has “observed delusional ideas of persecution, conspiracy and filiation” as well as “injunctive and hetero-aggressive hallucinations”.

Célya was found dead in a wood in Seine-Maritime, late on Friday evening, after the Kidnapping Alert system was triggered. The main suspect, her mother’s partner, was arrested early Saturday morning. He was taken into custody in the investigation opened for “attempted murder of a spouse”, “kidnapping of a minor under 15” and “murder of a minor under 15”.

The prosecution also assures that the legal procedure “will be pursued by the opening of a judicial investigation” which will “to clarify the course of events and the criminal responsibility of the accused, in light of his psychiatric disorders”.
