(Montreal) With a health network that is always overloaded and often flirts with service breakdowns, the approach of the summer holidays remains a critical period. The nurses want to know what to expect and call on the minister to find out his intentions.
The Fédération Interprofessionnelle de la santé du Québec (FIQ) called the media on Wednesday morning to send a message to the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé. The union deplores a “radio silence” from the minister when we have already passed mid-May.
According to the FIQ, the health establishments have still not communicated a game plan for the summer season and we fear “catastrophe” if the network chooses improvisation.
The union, which claims to represent some 80,000 nurses, licensed practical nurses, respiratory therapists and clinical perfusionists, wants to know how the Minister intends to go about “supporting healthcare professionals”.
In a press release, the FIQ demands an end to the coercive measures against the personnel; that incentive measures be promoted; that dialogue be opened with local unions; and that schedule predictability is offered to care staff.
Last summer, no restrictions were imposed on nurses regarding the vacation period despite a high occupancy rate in Quebec hospitals.
