While Sudan is still under high tension, France is doing its utmost to repatriate its nationals and diplomats. Since April 24, the evacuations have continued.
The nationals managed to reach Khartoum airport to evacuate Sudan by a French army plane. It’s the end of a long ordeal for them. They had been stuck in the fighting for over a week. Direction now the French military base in Djibouti. A total of 388 people were evacuated including nationals of other European and Asian countries. Upon their arrival in Djibouti, these returnees, finally safe, feel a strong sense of relief. “We are just waiting to find out when we will be repatriated to France. We have a few people who don’t feel very good but overall it’s ok. We are safe, we are happy“, says one of them.
150 soldiers mobilized
The evacuation operation was extremely perilous. It mobilized 150 French soldiers. One of the convoys carrying evacuees to the airport was caught in the crossfire.
