A toll that could have been much more dramatic. Six students from a school north of Lisbon, aged 12 to 14, were stabbed on Tuesday, September 17, by a classmate. One of the victims is in a serious condition, emergency services said. Seriously injured, this 12-year-old girl was hospitalized after being hit in the chest and head by her classmate of the same age, according to local media.
This aggression, which occurred in the municipality of Azambuja, about fifty kilometers north of the capital, was immediately condemned by Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, who spoke of a “isolated act” and an exceptional incident in Portuguese society. “This incident should give rise to reflection… for all those who act in public spaces”he said on his X account. The Ministry of Education and the President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa also condemned this aggression.
The judicial police, who have opened an investigation to determine the motives and circumstances of this incident, have begun to question the student who injured his classmates.
