Strasbourg Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art
Inaugurated in 1998, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art stands on the banks of the Ill to the south of the historic district of Strasbourg.
Work of the architect Adrien Fainsilber, its design is based on readability and openness, offering privileged access to the various departments of the museum: exhibition spaces, permanent collections, graphic arts and photography cabinet, educational service, library , auditorium, as well as a restaurant and a bookstore-boutique.
The collections, enriched by several deposits from institutions and individuals, cover the period from 1870 to the present day and a geographical area mainly centered on Western Europe.
The proposed route revolves around several strong points: impressionism, new art, primitivism, abstraction, surrealism, new realism, support(s)/surface(s), fluxus, arte povera.
The museum is also wide open to the most current production.
The main artists represented are Gustave Doré, Jean Arp, Max Ernst, Victor Brauner, Frantisek Kupka, Vassily Kandinsky, Robert Filliou, Daniel Buren, Sarkis, Bertrand Lavier.
Many exhibitions and events (screenings, concerts, conferences, performances) make it a lively and resolutely open place.
