Cutting off American aid to Ukraine would be a “Christmas gift” to Vladimir Putin, said American President Joe Biden on Tuesday, December 12, who received Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House. “The US Congress must pass an extension for Ukraine (…) before it offers Putin the best Christmas present ever”he declared, even as Congress stumbled over the financial extension requested by the White House for kyiv.
Ukrainian troops “prove every day that Ukraine can win” against Russia, Volodymyr Zelensky said during this interview, brushing aside the doubts expressed by certain American parliamentarians after the disappointing counter-offensive of his army this summer.
Doubts expressed in particular by the head of the American House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson. “What the Biden administration seems to want is billions of additional dollars without adequate oversight, without any real strategy for victory”asserted the elected official after his interview with the Ukrainian head of state. In theory, elected officials only have until Friday to reach an agreement on a package of 61 billion dollars. The White House has warned that without this extension, it would be “short of money” by the end of the year.
