Stoneham and Tewkesbury | Three men die in accident

(Stoneham) Three men died late Tuesday evening in the Quebec region when the car they were traveling in violently left the road.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) reports that the accident occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Talbot Boulevard, near the intersection of Chemin du Manoir, in Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury. The hypothesis of a loss of control caused by excessive speed is seriously considered by the police.

When they arrived at the scene of the road tragedy, the first police officers noted that the three occupants of the vehicle had already lost their lives. They are three men aged in their fifties and sixties, whose identities were still unknown on Wednesday morning.

Extrication pliers were used to extricate the driver from the passenger compartment of the automobile.

As for the two passengers, they were found outside the car after having most likely been ejected. The Sûreté du Québec believes they were not wearing their seat belts.

The SQ reports that the swerve occurred in an area where the maximum speed allowed is 70 kilometers per hour and that the weather conditions were good.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

A section of Talbot Boulevard was closed to traffic until 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, so that SQ investigators could comb the scene of the accident.

An investigation will determine whether factors other than excessive speed could have been involved in this incident.
