“Staying in your corner and sulking, I don’t think that’s the right attitude to have when you’re a party with responsibilities.”declared Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, the mayor of Rouen and First Secretary Delegate of the PS, hostile to the union with La France Insoumise, on franceinfo on Saturday August 31, regarding Emmanuel Macron’s refusal to appoint the NFP candidate to Matignon, Lucie Castets.
“Do we sulk in our corner because we only wanted our program and our candidate? Or do we tell ourselves that we must be demanding, engage in dialogue, and do everything so that left-wing reforms that are useful to the French can come about?”he asked, calling for “rejecting the noise and fury and a union of the left dominated by Jean-Luc Mélenchon”.
“Today, there is a strategic debate: do we want to unite the left with Jean-Luc Mélenchon or with Raphaël Glucksmann? It’s not the same thing, not the same vision of politics,” according to the mayor of Rouen. “What I saw in the European elections is that it was Raphaël Glucksmann’s left that came out on top, and I want to join this left, which is credible and which refuses the brutalization of public debate,” he continued.
“In one case it is sound and fury, in the other case it is respect for democracy and the desire to work together.”

“I make a clear distinction between the militant sincerity of people involved in La France Insoumise and the leadership of LFI,” adds Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol. “It’s not a question of people, it’s a question of political line. Posturing and sectarianism, populism, I don’t think it’s the best way to improve people’s daily lives,” he finished.
