STAT: beware of the Fauberts | The Press

Oh well, oh well. The fans of STAT (holà!) have known for a few days that the psychiatrist François Éthier (Daniel Parent) did not voluntarily plunge into the void to end his life.

They now know who spent the last minutes with him and who may have pushed him to his death.

Before dissecting the gripping finale of the popular Radio-Canada medical soap opera, the whistleblower alert rings here like the bells of the video lottery machines that attendant Éric (Stéphane Rousseau) has fed all year.

It’s good ? Go! It was therefore the cool and mysterious emergency physician Jacob Faubert (Lou-Pascal Tremblay) who confronted François, the spouse of Emmanuelle St-Cyr (Suzanne Clément), a few minutes before his fatal fall.

Thursday evening’s episode showed Jacob in tears and distress at François’s home, while Emmanuelle performed resuscitation maneuvers on the body, lying on the sidewalk. But did Jacob really kill François by throwing him from the balcony?

It is impossible to confirm, because no image proves it. Was there a third person in the condo at the same time as Jacob and François? Mystery.

One thing is certain, Jacob knew François and resented him, for a still obscure reason. It will be remembered that Jacob abandoned a post in a prestigious university center to sneak into Saint-Vincent Hospital, no doubt to keep one eye (the right) on Emmanuelle and the other (the left) on the police investigation into the suspicious death of François, which implicates him.

Remember: Emmanuelle St-Cyr, the head of emergencies, was absent the day Jacob showed up before the Saint-Vincent selection committee. It was Isabelle Granger (Geneviève Schmidt) who interviewed Jacob. This is an interesting avenue to explore.

Since the firing of STAT in September, there is a theory that Francis is actually Jacob’s biological father. This hypothesis is not related to the strings skillfully stretched by the author Marie-Andrée Labbé.

True, François was very close to the fleeing psychiatrist Julie Faubert (Isabelle Brouillette), Jacob’s mother. They could have had an extramarital affair or even just slept together during one of their many conventions.

Still, Jacob would never have invested so much energy in seeking information on the disappearance of his biological father in Thailand if he knew that François was his real parent. You have to look elsewhere to identify the source of Jacob’s anger.

Perhaps on the side of the mysterious Vincent Dalpé (Luc Bourgeois), who shot himself in front of Julie and François? Reminder: Vincent was the patient, then the lover of Julie, who then passed it on to her colleague François. This love and professional triangle camouflages nebulous things.

What emerges from this final episode of the first season of STAT, is that you have to be wary of the Faubert family. Julie hid crucial information from the police, in addition to tackling and lying repeatedly. And the more than perfect Jacob revealed his psychopathic side in the very last scene relayed Thursday evening. It was spectacular.

After the intervention on the city bus, Jacob even said to Emmanuelle: “in my opinion, we won’t be able to get rid of each other”, which implied that a bond united them for life.

To the list of sleazy characters, I add the third psychiatrist in the series, Philippe (Patrick Labbé), who refrained from revealing important details to Emmanuelle about what François was going through before he died. It’s not neat, all that.

In the second chapter of STAT, scheduled for Radio-Canada in September, it is obvious that we will see Rémy Girard again, whom the character of Éric (Stéphane Rousseau) briefly met in a meeting of anonymous compulsive gamblers. It could be Eric’s father, who passed on the vice of gambling to him.

Comatose since his savage and unexplained aggression, Gabriel Lemaire (Jean-Nicolas Verreault) woke up miraculously. We’ll see if he has any explanations to provide to the cops about the bandits who violently beat him. Another file to be clarified next fall.

And maybe Isabelle will continue her flirtation with Gabriel’s brother, Justin (Alexandre St-Martin), because the current was going really well between these two.

This first season of STAT was filled with unexpected twists, spectacular medical cases and mini investigations that we took great pleasure in solving, from Monday to Thursday.

Screenwriter Marie-Andrée Labbé has created endearing and complex characters, who have integrated themselves into our daily lives as well as those of District 31.

I love the pugnacity of Pascal St-Cyr (Normand D’Amour), the clumsiness of Isabelle, the arrogance of Jacob and the insecurity of Marc-Olivier (Anglesh Major).

But it’s Emmanuelle, my favorite. What a fascinating character. A brilliant, reckless, intense and 100% dedicated emergency physician. Manu navigates between strength and vulnerability, aggressiveness and gentleness, as well as compassion and impatience.

And no, Manu is not a saint. Her imperfections and gray areas make her even more likable. With her, it’s anything but manu militari. Insert here a snare hit and a cymbal noise, thank you Montreal, good evening!
