The new version of the musical starmania won two Molières, Monday evening, during the 34e ceremony of these prizes devoted to French private and public theatre.
Michel Berger and Luc Plamondon’s creation won the Molière for musical show of the year and for best visual and sound creation. let’s remember that starmania was presented last fall and winter at the Seine Musicale in Paris, directed by Thomas Jolly, with choreography by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, under the musical direction of Victor Le Masne.
In addition, the show also received 12 nominations for musical comedy awards, including that of musical production of the year. Two Quebec artists who are part of the cast of starmania, Manet-Miriam Baghdassarian and David Latulippe, are among the nominations. The Musical Comedy Trophies, which will be awarded on June 12 at the Casino de Paris, reward the work of artists in this discipline in France.
Quebec author Luc Plamondon went on stage to receive his Molière, but he let Thomas Jolly do the usual thanks; “Visibly too moved to speak” according to Paris Match. Last November, Luc Plamondon confided to our colleague Mario Girard that the new and spectacular version of starmania should cross the Atlantic for performances in Montreal and Quebec. Their dates are yet to be confirmed.
