The man who led the internal affairs of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) until 2016 is back at work, after a suspension of almost five years.

Chief Inspector Costa Labos “will return to the organization on February 7, within the Corporate Services Department,” the SPVM said by email.
Mr. Labos had to leave the head of the internal affairs division when it was the subject of allegations of spying on journalists, manipulation for the benefit of clan wars and fabrication of evidence.
In 2016, Mr. Labos was transferred to the 9-1-1 central by the then police chief, Philippe Pichet, for an undisclosed reason. The following year, he was sent home, without his salary being cut, again for a reason that remained secret.
Costa Labos has never been the subject of criminal charges. After his suspension, he sued the City of Montreal and its police department for 2.5 million.
