SPVM commander under investigation for Tinder photos

Use Tinder during working hours in a professional uniform? Not for police officers from the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM). A commander, currently under disciplinary investigation, found out the hard way.

Robert Mansueto, commander at the SPVM, has been the subject of internal reports in connection with selfies published on Tinder. In two screenshots, we see the head of police and operational practices posing proudly in uniform on the social network Tinder.

The gesture seems innocuous. But the fact of appearing in uniform with his service weapon on a popular platform aimed at making romantic or sexual encounters has raised questions internally. By virtue of their ethical and disciplinary obligations, SPVM police officers must behave in such a way as to maintain the trust and consideration required by their duties and refrain from using their police status for personal gain.

According to our information, the selfies were taken during his working hours at SPVM headquarters.

The police force learned of the existence of these photos on the morning of January 25 and immediately opened a disciplinary investigation to shed light on this situation, confirms the Communications and Media Relations Division.

“The disciplinary code requires police officers to behave in a way that maintains public trust. »

The SPVM specifies that “the police officer in question” had himself removed these photos before the initiation of disciplinary proceedings. This file is therefore not the subject of any sanction for the moment.

“The Internal Affairs Service is still continuing its investigation and appropriate measures will be taken based on the findings. The investigation aims to determine whether or not his behavior is likely to harm the maintenance of the public’s sense of trust in SPVM police officers. »
