Soul pianist and singer Les McCann dies

Soul pianist and singer Les McCann died shortly before the New Year from pneumonia. He was 88 years old.


Les McCann had made his mark as one of the pioneers of soul jazz in the late 1960s and was one of the first jazz players to use electronic keyboards and pianos.

Author of around fifty albums between 1960 and 2018, her music greatly influenced funk and R&B musicians and she returned to the forefront when several hip hop artists, including Snoop Dog, Dr Dre and Notorious BIG have sampled it in their works.
