SOS Médecins suspends its home visits after the attack on a practitioner with a ball gun

The SOS Médecins branch in Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin) interrupted all its home visits until Monday morning, after one of its practitioners was attacked by the spouse of a patient he was visiting on Saturday. August 27. “We are exercising our right of withdrawal and will no longer be making home visits until Monday 8 a.m., in solidarity with our colleague”explained to AFP Frédéric Tryniszewski, president of SOS Médecins 68. One of his colleagues was intervening in the city center of Mulhouse for a home visit, Saturday at the start of the afternoon, to a patient when he was taken to task by his spouse who reproached him for his delay in intervention, according to the story of Fréderic Tryniszewski.

The 32-year-old man threatened the doctor with death, telling him to “clear”. “He then went to get a shotgun which he pointed in front of the doctor, repeating his death threats”still according to Frederic Tryniszewski. “He pointed his gun almost point-blank at the level of the head then at the chest, saying ‘I’m going to shoot you, I’m going to smoke the doctor'”told AFP the lawyer for the assaulted doctor, Raphaël Nisand.

Frightened, the young practitioner of 30 years decided to leave the premises. “After turning around, he was shot twice in the right thigh, with severe pain”described the president of SOS Médecins 68. The general practitioner then called the police who quickly arrested the shooter and seized the weapon, “a shotgun, a very faithful replica of a shotgun”, according to the president. According to him, his colleague “is particularly shocked” and presents “bruises”. Examined Sunday by a doctor from the forensic institute of Mulhouse, no day of ITT was nevertheless prescribed to him, announced his lawyer.

“I strongly condemn the inadmissible attack on an SOS Médecins doctor yesterday in Mulhouse, threatened with death and injured by gunfire during a home visit”reacted the Minister of Health, Sunday on Twitter. “I give him all my support, as well as his family and all the teams”continued François Braun.

The young professional filed a complaint. “He will claim 1 symbolic euro”, his lawyer told AFP, specifying that in addition to SOS Médecins 68, the Haut-Rhin Order of Physicians, as well as the Professional Territorial Health Community (CPTS) of Mulhouse had brought civil action. Already known to justice, the alleged attacker was placed in police custody and did not dispute the facts. He will be presented to a judge on Monday for an immediate appearance, the Mulhouse prosecution told AFP.
