The Council of Ministers announced on Thursday the appointment of Sophie Prégent to the position of president of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ).
The actress, who plays the role of Stéphanie Duquette in the series Alerts at TVA, had left the presidency of the Union of Artists (UDA) in the spring of 2023. At the end of a rather eventful reign which will have lasted 10 years.
The cultural community is delighted with this appointment by the Quebec government. “Sophie Prégent is a great Quebec actress, but she is also an inspiring and influential leader capable of leading major projects. Her 10 years at the head of the Union des artistes have allowed anyone who had the chance to work with her to gauge her determination to protect artists and improve their socio-economic conditions,” said Chantal Cadieux, author and president of SARTEC. An organization that defends the economic, artistic and professional rights and interests of authors and screenwriters in the audiovisual field.
