Turning off the light is a basic gesture to save energy. However, many signs remain lit at night.
Night has fallen, however many lights remain on in Paris. Inside some businesses, screens continue to rotate images while the doors are closed. However, these practices are illegal between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. Some businesses ignore this law and choose to leave the lights on. “It must be the rules, but since it’s an American company, they don’t really comply with the rules in France”explains the employee of one of the companies who remained lit at night.
Customers of these large brands do not necessarily agree with the fact that the lights remain on at night. “I think it shouldn’t exist, it doesn’t have to be, it’s just to encourage consumption and then at night the shops aren’t open“explains a woman. Some consumers find the lights reassuring at night. An association denounces the lack of sanctions against these companies which do not respect the law.
