Faced with the increase in attacks, the State of New York (United States) has decided to call on officers to support law enforcement in the metro.

Soldiers to protect the subway: this is the latest measure put in place by the State of New York, in the United States. In Grand Central, Thursday March 7, National Guard officers came as reinforcements. A thousand soldiers and state police came to support the local police. Now at the entrance to the stations, bags are randomly searched for firearms or dangerous objects.

These new measures divide New Yorkers. When some see it as a way to have a “safer metro”others wonder about the control methods: “Are they going to target certain people? I think that will lead to more problems”estimates a user.

An increase in attacks in the metro

For two years, attacks on the subway have worried residents: a few weeks ago, a conductor was slashed in the neck while on duty, and a man opened fire on the crowd in Brooklyn, injuring 29 people. To combat these crimes, New York City had drastically increased the police presence. However, the State seems to want to move up a gear.
