The dissident socialist Martine Froger will not sit on the benches of the left, in the National Assembly. More than a month after her election, the member for Ariège is preparing to join the centrist group Libertés, Indépendants, Overseas and Territories (Liot). “It is being formalized”said its president, Bertrand Pancher, during a press conference on Tuesday, confirming information from Figaro.
Martine Froger was elected on April 2 against a candidate invested by the New Popular, Ecological and Social Union (Nupes), and from the ranks of La France insoumise (LFI). When she arrived at the Palais Bourbon, she first turned to the Socialist group in the Assembly, which asked her for pledges of “loyalty” vis-à-vis the Nupes. However, she persisted in her rejection of the left alliance, making it impossible to integrate into this group.
