No, the Quebec winter has not yet said its last word. Precipitation of up to 15 centimeters is expected as of Monday evening in certain regions of Quebec, which will be accompanied by colder than normal temperatures almost everywhere in the province, after the Easter break.

In Montreal, however, the snow should only pass. According to Environment Canada forecasts, two to four centimeters are expected there on Tuesday morning, quantities which should then “change into rain during the afternoon”, indicates the meteorologist of the federal agency Maja Rapaic. “The model shows a lot of snow on the ground, but as we remain close to zero, it will melt quickly and it should not accumulate too much,” she explains.
In the Laurentians, in Mont-Tremblant in particular, the snow is likely to be more present: after the first falls at night, the region should receive up to five centimeters during the day. Ditto for Quebec City and Mauricie, where the snow will also change to rain gradually.
Further north in the province, areas such as Charlevoix, La Tuque and Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean could receive between 10 and 15 centimeters of snow between Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon. In the south, however, it will be mostly rain. The two systems affecting Quebec will this time come from the east coast of the United States and the Great Lakes.
The cold also in the game
Note: Quebecers will also have to expect “particularly low” temperatures from the start of the week, warns Mme Rapaic. “It’s nothing exceptional for the month of April, but we still remain below seasonal norms in most regions,” she notes on this subject.
In Montreal, on Tuesday, the maximum forecast on the thermometer is currently 3°C, while the average temperature for the month of April is usually close to 7°C.
We will also reach -1 ° C further north overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, especially in La Tuque and Saguenay. However, the mercury should rise again on Wednesday for the rest of the week; we expect, among other things, 9°C and beautiful sunny weather in the metropolis.
Gusts of wind between 30 and 70 km/h are also expected on Tuesday to complete this “weather cocktail” across Quebec. The strongest gusts will be observed in the regions near the river, for example in the Gaspé, which could also have to deal with freezing rain.
“All of this means that visibility may be reduced on the roads, especially on Tuesday morning. We will have to be vigilant”, finally underlines the meteorologist in a telephone interview. She recalls that the many Quebecers who have already swapped their winter tires in the last few days will have to be “particularly careful” at the network level.
