Three years after his first album, The magnificentGustafson lightens up his romantic pop song by relying on less electronic instrumentation and without drum machines for the rest of his story. The songwriters Jean-Philippe Perras and Adrien Bletton distilled the essence of the duo, whose suave grooves rest on the shoulders of the impeccable rhythm section (Marie-Pierre Arthur on bass, José Major on drums, Philippe Beaudin on percussion). The choruses have the gift of tugging at our ears and compensate for the lightness of the lyrics, nostalgic and a bit clichéd. On Full Sentimental : “Without the jungle growing around you / I remember you / It makes me full sentimental / Like in an Alain Souchon song,” Bletton sings tenderly, his mellow baritone voice sometimes giving the impression of hearing an indie pop reincarnation (or disco pop, as on Leave meat the end of the album) by Joe Dassin.
