(Paris) The Paris mosque marks the sixth anniversary of the attack on the Bataclan concert hall on Friday, which killed 90 people in the French capital in 2015.
Muslim leaders laid a wreath at the site, a day before a larger commemoration took place. The mosque is holding its commemoration a day earlier to have it fall on a Friday, a special weekly prayer day, as a sign of respect.
“It is to show our solidarity with the victims that we have offered to meet here this Friday, which is an important day for Muslims,” said the rector of the Paris mosque, Chems-Eddine Hafiz.
The anniversary comes as 14 men are on trial in France in connection with a series of coordinated terrorist attacks in Paris on November 13, 2015.
During the bloody events, jihadists detonated vests filled with explosives and opened fire on cafes in the French capital before massacring spectators at a concert at the Bataclan, killing a total of 130 people.
Victims’ associations also visited the site on Friday, saying it was a demonstration of inclusion and to demonstrate that no community should be vilified.
All nine attackers died in the 2015 attacks, but a potential attacker whose explosive vest malfunctioned and others accused of aiding them are currently on trial in Paris.
