Europe is currently experiencing a rebound from the Covid-19 epidemic. In the United States, the Pfizer vaccine has just been authorized, urgently by the American drug agency, for 5 to 11 year olds. 28 million children are affected. Could young French people also soon be concerned?

It is an almost unprecedented decision in the world. On Friday, October 29, the United States authorized the vaccination against Covid-19 for children aged 5 to 11. For months, Pfizer conducted trials on nearly 4,600 children and the results were validated by authorities nationwide. “They show that the vaccine is 90.7% effective,” observes Professor Janet Woodcock of the US drug agency.

28 million young Americans could be affected, but the dosages will be different. One injection of Pfizer concentrates 30 micrograms of vaccine per adult, which will be three times less for a child. In France, should we follow the American example? “There is no urgent need in France today to vaccinate 5-11 year olds”, says pediatrician Robert Cohen, president of the Pediatric Infectious Pathology Group (GPIP). In France, admissions have increased by 30% in a week, so for other specialists, vaccinating the youngest could prevent a new wave.
