In the town of Ceyrat (Puy-de-Dôme), a recently arrived resident wants to silence the church bells during the night. The mayor therefore organized a vote of all the inhabitants.
TO Ceyrat (Puy-de-Dôme), the question is causing a stir: should we stop the church bells at night between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.? Monday, November 15, a local consultation began with the 250 households in this hamlet. At the origin of this debate, Gaël Drillon, an inhabitant installed for less than a year, had launched a petition signed by about thirty inhabitants.
The bells ring every hour and every halftime. “When I sleep, it’s like she’s next to me, deplores Gael Drillon. Windows, it’s impossible to open them, because it’s even more virulent.“Another opposition petition was launched and supported by 200 people.”The bells are part of the auditory heritage of a village“says a passerby. The mayor therefore asked to give the floor to the inhabitants. “Initially, I was absolutely not against, it’s more the way he asked“, Explain Anne-Marie Picard, mayor (without label) of Ceyrat. The result of the consultation will be known on Saturday, November 20.
