According to Public Health France, a new wave of Covid epidemic is affecting France. On the 20 Heures set, Monday June 17, doctor and journalist Damien Mascret discusses the risks during the Olympic Games.

Covid has not said its last word. A new epidemic wave has hit French territory since mid-May. According to doctor and journalist Damien Mascret, the incidence is increasing. In the city, SOS Médecins reports a 51% increase in suspected Covid for the week of June 3 to 10. Same observation for emergency admissions, where a similar increase of 52% was observed. “Fortunately we are far from last year’s peaks, but be careful, the gatherings with the Euro and the Olympics could well accentuate this new wave”alerts the doctor.

A new sub-variant is believed to be rampant in France, because the large Omicron family has continued to circulate since 2022. This variant of Covid remains in its lineage. “Unfortunately, there are still many people who were not vaccinated during the last campaign”, regrets Damien Mascret. Many people at risk have not been vaccinated. The journalist therefore calls for continuing to take precautions, especially for people aged 80 and over, dependent elderly people, immunocompromised people or anyone at high risk.
