The victim and a friend were walking on Boulevard Rolland when a dark vehicle approached them. Gunshots were heard at that time, hitting one of the two passers-by, a 33-year-old man.

The man was injured in both legs according to Raphaël Bergeron, media relations officer for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).

He then managed to take refuge inside a dwelling located not far from where the 911 call was made.

The victim was conscious and breathing when transported, the spokesperson said, and he would cooperate with authorities. The man finds it hard to understand why he would have been the target of such an attack.

The other person accompanying him was not hit.

A dark vehicle was seen leaving the scene after the events, and investigators were heading to the scene in the evening to gather information, meet with potential witnesses and see if CCTV cameras picked up footage of the assault.
