(Shefford-Ouest) A 47-year-old motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries on Sunday after a collision with a car in Shefford, in the Eastern Townships.

The accident occurred around 3:45 p.m. on Saturday on Route 243. The motorcycle reportedly struck a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction that was making a turn.
“According to initial information, the collision occurred when the vehicle traveling on the 243 northbound turned to enter the access ramp for Highway 10,” said the information officer. Nicolas Scholtus, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The motorcyclist was taken to hospital, as was his passenger.
The motorcyclist was taken to hospital in serious condition and succumbed to his injuries on Sunday. The woman suffered serious injuries. She was taken to hospital as well, but there are no fears for her life, Scholtus said.
The driver of the vehicle suffered a nervous shock. He was treated at the scene by paramedics.
An SQ accident reconstruction specialist was dispatched to the scene.
The Sûreté du Québec investigation is ongoing.
