A week before this announcement, on May 28 and 29, Mme St-Hilaire will host the CAQ convention in Drummondville. The Press indicated on May 2 that in addition to being the host of the congress, she was approached as a candidate in Sherbrooke where she now lives. It was reported on May 6 that his candidacy seemed certain.

The name of the former Bloc member, former panelist on the show the game, had been the subject of rumors when she announced her sudden departure from the daily last December.

Many saw her running for the CAQ in the upcoming partial in Marie-Victorin, a riding vacated by independent MP Catherine Fournier, who was justly elected mayor of Longueuil a few weeks earlier. Caroline St-Hilaire had rather said that she had landed a job as vice-president of government relations for the consulting firm Leliken.

She recently published a book, Renovate your house without destroying your couple, co-written with her husband, Maka Kotto, a former actor and former Quebec Minister of Culture and Communications who became a columnist for Quebecor.

The riding of Sherbrooke has been represented by Québec solidaire MNA Christine Labrie since 2018. She won 34.3% of the vote, ahead of Liberal Luc Fortin (24.7%), Caquiste Bruno Vachon (23.4%) and PQ Guillaume Rousseau (14.6%).
