After just seven months of loyal service, the support dog of the City of Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS), Colombo, will retire, the SPS announced on Wednesday.
“After a thorough assessment by the Mira Foundation team, it was agreed that Colombo failed to meet the necessary criteria to do its job well. Now is the time for Colombo to hang up his harness,” the SPS said in a statement.
During his short career, the two-year-old animal still performed 24 procedures. Colombo worked in the Criminal Investigations Division to assist investigators in interviewing young victims of sexual crimes and provided support during the various stages of the legal process.
He was also able to support the citizens of Sherbrooke with the patrol officers during traumatic events.
“He will experience a career change over the next few weeks,” it was said.
