(Atlanta) Canada defeated Brazil 4-2 in a penalty shootout at the SheBelieves Cup on Saturday.
The two teams were tied 1-1 after 90 minutes.
Canadians Adriana Leon, Jade Rose, Simi Awujo and Julia Grosso scored in penalties. Ashley Lawrence’s shot went over the net.
Cristiane and Tarciane found the back of the net for Brazil. Kailen Sheridan stopped Marta’s shot and Antonia’s kick missed the target.
Lorena replaced Tai Borges in front of the Brazilian net in added time of the second half. She faced Canada’s shots in the deciding session.
In the final, Tuesday in Columbus, the Canadians will play against the United States, fourth in the world. For its part, Brazil will face Japan, seventh.
Brazil, 10ehad the advantage in a duel which saw Canada, ninth, tie the score only late in the match, when Vanessa Gilles hit the target.
Gilles completed a free kick from Jessie Fleming and scored his fourth goal for Canada, in the 77the minute.
Tarciane scored the goal that gave Brazil a 1-0 lead. His country led 1-0 at half-time.
Tarciane’s goal was scored from a penalty. She beat Sheridan in the 22nde minute.
Earlier at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Americans defeated Japan 2-1.
The match was played in front of 50,644 people, a home record for an American friendly match.
The United States started the game poorly, allowing a goal in the first minute of play.
Jaedyn Shaw tied the score 1-1 for the United States in the 21e minute. She is the first American to score in her first five games with the team.
Lindsay Horan scored the winning goal from a penalty, in the 77the minute.
