franceinfo: With Goodbye Vinyl This is your debut as a star. In addition, you are surrounded by it, with Josée Dayan directing, Isabelle Adjani and Mathieu Amalric to give you the answers. Can we say: “No” to such casting?

Barbara Pravi: We can, but we don’t even want to. It’s incredible to have had the chance to do this, especially since Josée chose me. I didn’t have a casting call to play this role. In this fiction Eve is a bit of a positive force and Florence is a bit of a negative force, she has a bit of teeth that scratch the floor. That being said, she herself is obsessed with this woman and would dream of being her.

Adieu Vinyle is a police drama. You only have two scenes with Isabelle Adjani. Weren’t you too impressed by her?

She has an incredible aura. She is so kind, sweet. She has a very special grace and that’s what’s impressive. When she comes into a room, we only see her. She is also an extremely nice woman. She was very kind, she supported me and gave me advice. I arrived on set and we rehearsed together.

“I was not impressed by Isabelle Adjani because I felt really helped.”

The songs in the fiction are by Benjamin Biolay. You didn’t want to do them yourself as you are a composer?

The question didn’t arise and above all, I was delighted to be someone’s instrument for once. As I compose my songs, actually, it was great to have had the chance to be the object of desire and of José and of Benjamin in a way since I went to the studio, he directed me telling myself: It’s better if you sing like that. In the 60s, she would have interpreted it that way. It feels really good. It frees part of the mind. I’m glad she didn’t offer it to me because I wouldn’t have been able to say no and at the same time, it would have added a lot of stress that I didn’t need.

When will Barbara Pravi, the singer, return?

Soon. There is an album in the works. I’m at the beginning so for now, there are bits and pieces. I loved being on stage so much, it’s my place of vibrations, where I met lots of people, in lots of countries. I would like to go back next year.

“It is for the public that I make music. It is for them that I will sing. It is a real relationship and it is maintained like friendship or love.”

You’ve been singing for years, but you really exploded in 2021 by representing France at Eurovision. What has Eurovision changed for you?

It changed everything. I was a waitress before doing Eurovision. I made music, of course, and I wrote for others, but that wasn’t enough for me to earn a living because it’s very difficult to earn a living in artistic professions. Doing Eurovision France really allowed the public to meet me and they were the ones who decided. He then took me to Rotterdam. The public is part of this rise and it is extremely important for me to always maintain this link. I went almost every evening to see the public after the signing concerts.
