Severe thunderstorm watch in Quebec

After the rain, the good weather, but the storm could last a long time this weekend in several regions of Quebec. Environment Canada is also warning that tornadoes could form in parts of the province.

The sun will be out again on Monday almost everywhere in Quebec. Severe thunderstorm watches are however in effect this Saturday, in anticipation of the evening, in several regions of the province, including Montreal and its northern and southern suburbs, the Laurentians, Lanaudière, Charlevoix and Gatineau, among others.

In these areas, “very strong” gusts are to be expected in the late afternoon and this evening, as well as “large” hail and heavy rain, foresees Environment Canada, which is calling on residents of these areas to exercise caution if venturing outdoors during these inclement weather.

In certain regions of Quebec, the conditions are also “conducive to the formation of violent thunderstorms which could produce tornadoes” this Saturday. This is particularly the case in Beauce, Drummondville, Estrie, Mauricie, Montmagny-L’Islet and Quebec. “This is a dangerous situation that could cause fatal injuries,” reads Environment Canada’s website.

The rain will continue on Sunday in several regions of Quebec. However, the sun will shine on Monday for National Patriots’ Day.
