The 20and edition of the Animation Film Summits ended on Sunday at the Cinémathèque québécoise with an award ceremony.
37 animated films from across Canada were in competition this year. The two main prizes were awarded to Aboriginal directors.
Angakuksajaujuq: The Shaman’s Apprentice by Inuk director Zacharias Kunuk won the Grand Prix Guy-L. Side for the best animated film. The jury highlighted the “great visual, cultural and emotional richness” of the work.
Meneath: The Hidden Island of Ethicss by Métis director Terril Calder won the Special Jury Prize. The honesty of the narrative was emphasized, along with the graphic risk-taking and bold aesthetic.
Marie-Noëlle Moreau Robidas is the winner of the audience award with black triangle.
The prize for best character was given to Louisiane Gervais, who can be found in No title by Alexandra Myotte. symphonic harmonium by Vince Hurtubise, Marcella Grimaux and Gabriel Poirier-Galarneau won the prize for best music video. The prize for the best educational or commissioned film crowned Magic caresses (Masturbation: the little story of a big taboo) by Lori Malépart-Traversy.
The Canadian Competition jury was made up of Jean-Charles Mbotti Malolo, Shira Avni, Pixie Cram, Olivier Morin and Marya Zarif.
The Summits took place from May 10 to 15 with around a hundred screenings, exhibitions and activities.
