Several people were taken hostage on Saturday March 30 in a town in the center of the Netherlands, Ede, police announced. A security cordon was set up around a bar-discotheque, the Petticoat, whose owner confirmed to the daily De Telegraaf that its staff were being held hostage. The precise number of hostages held has not been communicated, with local media reporting four to five people.
At the end of the morning, the police reported the release of three hostages. “The situation is not over yet”she nevertheless clarified. “For the moment, there is nothing to indicate that this is a terrorist act”she had said a little earlier.
Police say around 150 homes were evacuated and the city center closed. On its website, the municipality confirms that the area is cordoned off and that riot police and explosives experts are on the scene. A negotiator was also mobilized, specifies De Telegraaf.
