A small vehicle – and its four passengers – deviated from its lane on Chemin des Patriotes around 5:30 p.m. Friday. A car coming in the wrong direction gave a steering wheel to avoid the first vehicle. A sport utility vehicle (SUV) that followed was not so lucky.

Five people were injured in a violent face-to-face between the SUV and the first car, including the four occupants of the first vehicle and the driver of the SUV. There is fear for the life of a person from the first car, which is in critical condition, said Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec. The others had minor to severe injuries.

Chemin des Patriotes (Route 133) was closed on Friday. A collision scene investigator is on site to understand why the first vehicle strayed from its lane.
