The crisis in Guadeloupe is a blow to the tourism sector, already affected by the Covid-19 epidemic. Vacationers and professionals alike are forced to adapt.

Heat and dream beaches, this is what tourists come looking for in Guadeloupe. But the violent incidents that have hit the island in recent days have punctuated the paradisiacal setting. Holidaymakers, disappointed, had to review their program at the last moment. After the health crisis, confinements and recent acts of violence, tourism is once again impacted on the island.

Pierre-Yves Sarazin, organizer of aquatic activities, deplores a significant drop in activity. “We were very motivated, then in fact no“, he said bitterly. Some dams are installed in front of important tourist sites, such as beaches or hotels. Cathérine Cadrot, manager of the Arawak hotel, faces a series of cancellations and has seen half of her staff unable to come to work because of roadblocks. While the 6 p.m. curfew had been put in place for security reasons, it had a strong impact on the tourism sector, leading to the closure of all restaurants.
