The only criticism that we will address to Sarah Rossy concerns the duration of Seemingly Insatiable Waves : the disc is too good to be so short. In these five original songs there is the germ of a great project for the Montreal musician and singer, member of the avant-garde jazz trio Dolman/Rossy/Jobin. Surrounded by around ten local musicians, she develops a song that is both pop and jazz with orchestrations (brass, strings, bass clarinet) as refined as they are complex, delicately psychedelic thanks to the shimmering timbres of the synthesizers — there is something the baroque art pop musical spirit of Kate Bush in this project, the jazz argument as a bonus. Two Shipsin the opening, casts off beautifully, followed by a graceful piano-vocal harmonies ballad (Here, Now). More expressively pop on What a Time to Be AliveRossy then moves into a brief atmospheric interlude leading into the folk spell of Space to Grow…and it ends like this, after seventeen sensitive and intelligent minutes. Looking forward to the sequel!
