Security meetings: scanner, new posts, cross-border cooperation… the announcements made by the ministers

The interventions of Eric Dupond-Moretti, Gérald Darmanin and Gabriel Attal were eagerly awaited on September 30, 2022 at the Assises de la Sécurité. The trio of ministers made numerous announcements.



Arrived around 6:00 p.m. with these two fellow ministers, Gabriel Attal was the first to address the Guyanese at the Hotel de la Collectivité Territorial this Friday, September 30. To combat drug trafficking, the minister in charge of public accounts announced the deployment of a container scanner located at the portas well as’a new X-ray machine at Félix Eboué airport. Always on this place, a new team of dog handlers should be assignedas well as 10 customs officers by 2023.

An interdepartmental working group will be set up under the aegis of the Criminal Affairs Department, in the continuity of the ‘Plan mules’ “, declared, for his part, Eric Dupond-Moretti. The Keeper of the Seals continued: “I decided to create 5 magistrate posts (one at the floor, the others at headquarters). I will send, in the coming days, 5 contractors, including two assistant lawyers.

He adds: “We have created – and this will come into effect from January 2023 – a support brigade is a creation for Guyana. This is to send here metropolitan magistrates for a period of 6 months to relievein the emergency, the magistrates and clerks who have the difficulties that we know. From January 2023, 4 sitting magistrates, 3 public prosecutors and three court clerks will be sent here“. A director of registry and three clerks have also been announced.

Furthermore, he also indicated thata center dedicated to untreated organized crime will be created by the Specialized Interregional Jurisdiction (JIRS), in Fort-de-France. There, a magistrate in charge of relations will deal with Guyanese cases. Regarding cooperation with neighboring countries, theentry into force of the “convention on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters between France and Suriname”, signed today in Paramaribowill improve cooperation between the two territories.

Finally Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior and Overseas declared the arrival: a RAID branch, 13 elite police officers sent permanently from next year, 70 mobile gendarmerie soldiers. He also promises 25 judicial police officers, drones to be deployed in the agglomeration of Cayenne and in the forest, four new brigades (two river brigades and two road brigades) and 50 police and gendarmes in Felix Eboué so that all flights are controlled.
